Afghanistan wants to hold Pakistan for the cricket series

Karachi: Chairman of the newly appointed Afghan cricket Azizullah Fazli said on Wednesday he would visit Sektori in Pakistan this weekend to invite the one-day side for the series.
The war-torn nation has continued to rise in international cricket over the last few years, with stars such as the world’s top spinner Rashid Khan, but there is a call for a boycott of the men’s team after Hardline Taliban takeover last month.
Changes in government have questioned the future of Afghanistan’s participation in a test match, as under International Cricket Council rules, countries must also have active women’s team.
The Taliban has yet to announce a policy on women who play sports, but a senior official said it would be “unnecessary”.
Avoid commenting on the latest developments, Fazli said he plans to visit other regional cricket force.
“I took a tour of Pakistan from 25 September and then it will go to India, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates to meet officials of the cricket board,” he told AFP by telephone from Kabul.
Fazli said he would meet with new Pakistani cricket board chairman Ramiz Raja, “and offered to hold Pakistan to series that we will be playing in Sri Lanka in September”.
A three-game series one game between Pakistan and Afghanistan canceled over logistical problems and outbreaks Covid-19 in Sri Lanka.
It was part of the league one day which is the qualifying process for the World Cup 2023.
“We are trying to improve Afghanistan cricket so it will come up with the cooperation of other countries,” added Fazli.
Fazli confirmed the king would visit Pakistan.
Fazli, in its second term as chairman after serving the Council of September 2018 to July 2019, said he is committed to improving facilities in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan are in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage of the Twenty20 World Cup due to start from October 17 in the United Arab Emirates.
Australia has threatened to cancel the test match with Afghanistan in Brisbane in November unless the Taliban allow women to play cricket.
The new ruler on Tuesday sacked as chief executive Hamid Shinwari Afghanistan Cricket Board, replacing it with Naseeb Khan Zadran, associated with the Haqqani Network, which is responsible for some of the worst attacks in the history of the country.
