New Delhi: Lalit Bhanot, Chair of the Athletics Federation of the Indian Planning Committee (AFI), on Tuesday said they would hold a Javelin throwing competition every year on August 7.
The Javelin Thrower of India Neeraj Chopra created history on August 7 when he became the first athlete of the country to win gold on track and field at the Olympics.
He threw Javelin to a distance of 87.58m to choose a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
“The Athletic Federation of the Indian Planning Committee has decided to promote Javelin throwing and will hold competitions every year throughout the country on August 7 when Neeraj Chopra won gold in Tokyo today,” said Bhanot in a criminal program organized by Neeraj Chopra by AFI.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra arrived at home for welcome Monday.
After arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport here in New Delhi, Javelin’s explosion was flooded with supporters.
The Star Athlete said he could not believe it when he won a gold medal because competition in a multi-sports event was “quite difficult”.
“Every athlete dreams of winning a medal at the Olympics, I won gold and I didn’t believe because the competition was quite difficult and there were many good throws but I performed well and won gold,” Neeraj said.
“I thought I was a dream but when I saw my medal, I realized ‘yes I have won gold at the Olympics’.
When I return to India, I realized that I had done something worthy of people,” he added.
This year the match was held with a covid-19-induced limitation and all events were held behind closed doors.
About 11,000 athletes from more than 200 countries competed at the Tokyo Olympics.
India recorded the best Olympic results with seven medals (one gold, two silver, and four bronze).
