JOHANNESBURG: South African Health Regulator has approved the Covid-19 vaccine Pfizer for use by children aged 12 years and over, paving the way for the government to offer vaccination to adolescents.
The South African Health Product Authority (Saphra) said the decision came after the updated review of safety and efficacy information submitted in March this year.
After a bumpy start, the South African vaccination campaign has increased in recent months with strong shot supplies secured and only more than 12% of more than 60 million people are vaccinated.

Countries around the world are now considering or managing vaccines for children, while other vaccine developers include modernar looking for green light to use shots in adolescents.
Pfizer, whose shots have been given to adolescents, are planning a test in younger children.
