Ghaziabad: The Ministry of Health has intensified testing in the Nehru Nagar area after the elderly pair was found to have been infected with Omicron variants.
Couples – At the end of the sixties – is the first confirmed omicron case in the state.
On November 29, the couple returned from Mumbai through Jaipur.
After reaching the house in Nehru Nagar, a partner – which is fully vaccinated – has cough and mild symptoms of the virus.
They got themselves tested in a private lab and found Covid on 2.
December when their home isolation period more than two weeks later, they got another test and found negative.
An official said the couple was fine, but a 45-year-old relative in their home had been tested positively.
The sample has been sent for genome sequencing.
“Of the 10 people in their families, only one found has Covid so far.
He has been put into house isolation and his condition is being monitored at all times.
He is far more stable now,” said a health official.
“The homes of the elderly and surrounding areas now are micro detention zones.
Neighbors have also been placed under house isolation,” said NK Gupta, District Supervision Officer.
“A police team has been deployed outside their homes and their residents in a 100m radius told to remain vigilant and take precautions,” he added.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health carried out 146 tests within Nehru Nagar while 49 people were inoculated.
“The location is under focus now.
In the coming days, we plan to intensify supervision and test further,” Gupta said.
After the couple was tested negatively, they planned to go to Mumbai again.
But after officials knew they had contracted the Omicron variant, the antigen test was done again.
It also comes negative.
