Kolkata: The driver might soon cough twice the amount to park their car in the appointed parking lot in the entire city.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is set to revise the parking cost structure after more than a decade to make it rs 20 per hour, not Rs 10 now for cars.
For two wheels, the proposed parking fee is Rs 10 per hour instead of RS 5.
The KMC parking department can immediately notify the new cost structure that will take effect from 7am to 10pm.
The department in April 2019 tried the same revision but then turned it back under public pressure.
On Wednesday, the proposal was debated again and placed before the administrator board for discussion.
After that, it is forwarded to the Expert Committee consisting of senior senior officials and traffic police officers for deliberation.
Although formal decisions will be taken after the expert committee gives its view, the sources say it is likely to be passed now when the Commissioner of Binod Kumar itself recommends the need for changes in the cost structure in March.
The reason quoted for increasing costs is doubled.
Although it will add income, the KMC also hopes to prevent some people from taking their cars regularly, thus putting pressure on fewer parking lots.
More importantly, it will cause fewer emissions, and hence, reduce air pollution.
While appearing to be contedisictory, even 20% vehicle reduction will lead to more revenue at the revised level.
Parking income has been greatly affected in the last 18 months due to a pandemic.
Although there are no vehicles on the road during locking, even during the key unlocking and subsequent restrictions during the second wave, there are fewer cars on the road.
The parking department has also announced the neglect of the amount collected from parking agents during locking in 2020 because there was no income during this period.
The Department of Car Parking Officer section said the parking cooperative that spread officers to collect costs has demanded revisions for years.
