Gurgaon: City air quality index (AQI) turned ‘good’ on Wednesday after a loose 11 days.
Gurgaon has witnessed the last ‘good’ air day on August 21.
Last month, the city only recorded one day ‘good’ day, 17 days ‘satisfying’ and ‘moderate’ days, compared to eight days ‘good’ 23 days ‘satisfying’ in the appropriate period last year.
According to the state pollution control board Haryana (HSPCB), factors such as burning of garbage and dust from construction sites have contributed to the setback of air quality.
The whole city of the city was in a ‘satisfying’ sign at 57 on Thursday.
Good wind speed and Wednesday’s bathroom have spread pollutants, improve air quality.
Of the four air monitoring stations in the city, two records ‘satisfying’ AQI – Sector 51 (73) and Teri Gram (53) – While Vikas Sadan reported AQI ‘Good’ AQI in 48.
Data was not available at GwalPahari Station.
Aqi between zeros and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfying’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
HSPCB officials said AQI would likely remain in the ‘satisfying’ and ‘moderate’ range due to reducing industrial activities and vehicles.
“Because the speed of rain and wind is good in the city, Aqi has been in a satisfying range in the past few days,” said an official.
Talking about why the city reported fewer ‘good’ air days this August compared to last year, officers said the contribution of internal factors such as burning of garbage, violations of construction norms and pollutants could not be ruled fully.
“Toxic gases from burning waste and dust from construction sites have contributed to the level of pollution in Gurgaon.
We cannot deny the role of these factors while analyzing the city AQI,” he added.
