Mumbai: In the case of unintentional death, the first on the newly inaugurated Ghatkopar-Manchurd Road (GMLR) flyover, a 34-year-old fibrous driver died after he fell from a bicycle, his friend riding on Monday afternoon.
The deceased Yusuf Khan has a wooden business in Mandala, Mankhurd.
He was driving a pillion with his friend Akhtar Khan from Shivaji Nagar’s residence to his shop while still raining.

“When Akhtar pressed the brakes, the bike slipped and Yusuf lost his balance and fell on the back side,” said an officer at the Deonar police station.
He suffered a severe head injury and died in a place due to severe bleeding, said the source.
Yusuf’s body was handed over to his relatives after postmortem at Rajawadi Hospital.
Akhtar also suffered an injury, police said.
Yusuf survived by the six-year-old son and his wife, who was pregnant, said a source.
Since the inauguration on August 1, there have been a series of accidents on this flyover, said a source.
The opposition parties have slammed BMC and alleged that Flyover 2.9km was made open for riders in a hurry, and working on it had not been completely finished.
The flyover project is charged a cost of Rs 580 Crore.
BJP in BMC also said that the contractor must be withdrawn for a bad job on the flyover, while the AAM AAM member Adami (AAP) said the lower quality of material led to accidents and deaths in Mumbai.
Manoj Box, BJP MP from the area, said that the quality of work was unsatisfactory and the problem was raised with the Civic Bridge Department.
“In the inauguration too, the minister’s head asks BMC to pay attention to the surface of the flyover.
Even so, nothing is done,” said the box.
Corporator nominated by Bhalchandra Shirsat from BJP said that even though spending some crores, tar can be seen on the surface.
It makes a slippery road for riders.
“Even now, the bridge has not been opened for heavy vehicles,” he said.
But officials say there is a high voltage wire on the flyover which has high must be raised further before it can be opened for heavy vehicles.
The leader of the Jamajwadi Party at BMC Rais Shaikh said the flyover was not ready to open and it could be clearly made on the day of inauguration.
“It’s not clear why there is so much pressure to open the flyover in a hurry,” he said.
A BMC senior official from the Bridge Department said the road surface is made of resin, and in the coming days, grinding work will be taken.
“The driver can drive at high speed,” he said.
