LUCKNOW: After a recordbreaking spree for five days, the number of vaccinations dropped on Saturday with a little over 20,000 people taking the jab against Covid-19.
The turnout was high, but many had to go back disappointed because vaccines fell short at some centres.
The district administration had set a target of 20,000 inoculations daily at the start of the week which was to be increased to 30,000 from Thursday.
The city started with 21,708 vaccinations on Monday followed by 23,161 on Tuesday, 24,970 on Wednesday, 27,395 on Thursday and a record high of 28,131 on Friday.
However, on Saturday, a total 20,017—nearly 29% less than that of Friday—got the first or second shot at 252 centres.
Overall, over 1.4 lakh took the shot in six days.
CMO Dr Sanjay Bhatnagar said, “Our target was 22-23,000 vaccinations daily, but the week’s quota exhausted due to overwhelming turnout, resulting in shortage at a few centres.
We have requested for more supplies.” While there was no problem for people in the 18-44 years category who had booked slots at the CoWin portal, vaccines ran out for people aged 45 and above who had walked into centres.
Poonam Gupta (52), who came to BRD Hospital, said, “I came for the second dose, but staff told me that no vaccines are available.
They are sure about Monday either.” Arvind Sinha (48) and NK George (70), checked two centres in Mahanagar, but no vaccines were available.
At TB Hospital in Thakurganj, Rajendra Kumar (60) said, “The staff is saying only 100 doses were provided for the 18-44 years group.” Similar was the scene at Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Women and Child Hospital.
