Thane: Kalyan-Dombivli Trails Other satellite centers outside Mumbai in immunization coverage despite higher participation levels compared to Navi Mumbai and Thane, according to official data.
Activists blame administrative inefficiencies including the inability of the center, the problem in ordering slots and suddenly canceled vaccination drive.
Experts say the problem needs to be handled at priority because the majority of the population remains in a solid and dense area and often traveling to work, making them vulnerable to viruses.
Data shows the volume of population which is fully immunized here is less than neighboring cities.
The percentage in twin cities that have a combined population of more than 19 lakh is 3% compared to Thane (5%) and Navi Mumbai (6.6%).
The overall position of front is high at 7%, adding to worry, the experts said.
Officials admitted that twin cities received inadequate vaccine equipment, which forced them to suddenly stop the immunization drive.
Santosh Nimbalkar, who heads the Civic vaccination wing said, “We asked for 10 lakh vaccines but we received a few shares, because we could not vaccinate more citizens.” BJP MLA Ravindra Chavan said he had complained about the distribution of uneven bottles even though kalyan-dombivli was high from 1.35 lakh.
“The suburbs are the second worst affected area in the metropolitan area after Mumbai and should be given adequate shares,” he said.
“Many vaccination centers on the outskirts of the city are often closed due to shortcomings.
Even today, only two centers are operated with civilians operating.
The majority of the population is a working class and cannot do many trips to the center.
If the country wants to fight Covid-19, They must vaccinate more people in most affected areas, “said Activist Shrinivas Ghanekar.
Kalyan-Dompivli Administration has been recognized because of handling pandemic despite rare resources and lack of energy in public medical facilities.
Officials here roam the personal doctor with the help of IMA and activate the network of family doctors to monitor patients.
Shiv Sena MP Dr.
Whrikant Shinde from the area blames the central government to lack vaccines.
He said he was sure the supply would be restored now.
