Panaji: The body has been chosen to operate multi-car parking facilities in the city which has been lying not used for more than four years after completion.
One agent has been appointed which will operate a car parking facility and develop the area of Santa Monica Jetty for tourists, said a tourism official.
“Appointment of delayed agents due to a pandemic, but now we have it.
It will operate facilities and develop areas adjacent to the pier,” the officer said.
The facilities at the dock will mainly include a joint ticket counter for all cruise ships, including those who dock at the Jetty Port Captain (COP).
There will also be a common waiting area that will reduce congestion along the pier when tourists queue to take a cruise ship, he said.
During rush hour, the area witnessed a lot of traffic because it was the main entry and point out to the city.
The flow of traffic slowed throughout this stretch during the tourist season due to cross movement of tourists.
While the cruise journey is considered important in the planned travel of domestic tourists, Santa Monica Jetty does not have facilities for them, while on the other hand, the project of multi-car parking facilities worth Rs 35 Crore is not even used as a city parking misery is endless.
After many delays, this project was completed in November 2016.
spread over an area of 14,611 square meters, can accommodate a total of 465 cars on three floors, terraces, and open space on the ground floor.
Previous attempt by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) to hire an agent does not produce more than one floating tender.
On one occasion, a agency was completed after completing the tender process, but the GTDC decision was heated by the Ministry of Finance.
Then, the tender was suspended as an area adjacent to multi-car parking facilities, where GTDC plans to have facilities for tourists, used to accommodate materials for the third mandovi bridge being built.
