New Delhi: Chattisgarh Batubara Blocks allocated to state where the Congress is in power, or part of the ruling coalition, adds to Sonia Gandhi’s headache at one time the party focuses on polls in five states.
After the Head of the Head of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, Maharashtra Power Minister Nitin Raut, who came from Congress, was the latest Congress policy maker from a country to seek the party’s presidential intervention in seeking initial permission to start mining from the Chattisgarh coal block allocated to Mahagenco (Maharashtra generator company state electricity).

The source said the Raut wrote to Sonia after a discussion with Baghel failed to move the Chattisgarh government.
The pattern is similar to Rajasthan, where the Chief of the Minister of Ashok Gehlot knocked on the door of Sonia after his appeal to Baghel because it accelerated permission for Parsa East, Kante, Kante, Parsa and the Kante extension block in Chattisgarh not united.
Before the Raut wrote to Sonia, Mahagenco had written to the Coal Ministry who was looking for its intervention with the Chattisgarh government because the center recommended environmental permits.
Mahagenco has submitted a forest application in 2016 for 214 hectares of forest land.
But the application cannot be processed because of the unavailability of government land for compensation afforestation.
The utility reworked the mine limit, obtained private land to reforest and submit details to the District Forest Authority in September last year.
The district authorities freed the forest transfer proposal and forward it to the state government in October 2021 to recommend my stage approval to the Forest Department and the Union Environment.
But the state government has not sent recommendations to the center.
The Gare Palm-II block was awarded in August 2015 to Mahagenco and had an annual production capacity of 23 million tons, from October 2023.
