Panaji: After a long struggle, the Goa government has stopped the act of the 1997 rental with the Indian Resort Hotel Ltd.
– now known as Indian Hotel Hotel Ltd (IHCL) – to arrange recreational facilities for tourists on a land of Aguada Dataran.
“The rent has been stopped due to a hotel failure to pay rent that has matured since July 1, 1998,” said an official.
Indian Resort Hotels Ltd has been directed to submit land ownership to the Department of Tourism on or before the end of six months from the date of issuance.
It has also been directed to pay rental arrears along with interest of Rs 65 Crore within 30 days from the date of receipt of the order.
The North Goa collector has been directed to take over property if the company fails to obey the government’s order.
Termination order will be effective in six months from the date of issuance.
The Ministry of Tourism has planned to have recreational and entertainment facilities for tourists on site and buy property at RS 53 Lakh and rent it to Indian Resort Hotels Ltd for 50 years for RS 1 Crore rental.
The official said the company failed to do any development as agreed upon and did not even pay rent.
The company faces difficulties in getting various permits, which is obliged to implement the plan to have facilities for tourists, he said.
“This is the main land that has a beautiful view, and much can be done to raise the tour value of the place.
The main property has been left not used for years,” the official said.
