Gurgaon: Nearly three years after the construction began in January 2019, U-Litan Underpass four lanes near the Ambience Mall at Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, opened for commuters on Sunday.
Underpass, officials said, will be officially opened for the public “if all sequential” during the trial period which tends to continue until Diwali.
The National Highway Authority (NHAI) has missed several deadlines, including October 15, which was announced by the Minister of Transportation Union Nitin Gadkari, to launch a project that tried to cut an additional 4 kilometers to Rajokri in Delhi to take u-rilit to get to the Ambience mall , DLF Phase-3 and adjacent areas.
“The opening point of the underpass to run the experiment is to see if everything is fine in terms of safety and comfort – if the car moves properly or commuting facing problems in terms of speed can move, whether the lighting is right and also to ensure there is no type of interference inside Structure, “said NHAI official on Monday.
During the trial, the official added, the structure may be closed from time to time to do repair work or correct the shortcomings.
On Monday also, the 377 meter underpass was closed for several hours for electrical work, he added.
Built at a cost of Rs 102.94 Crore, Underpass is part of a broader project aimed at the toll road decongesting.
The second structure was built as part of it – Round U which was elevated in Shankar Chowk – opened for commuting in November last year.
After fully functioning, officials hope that underpass will not only reduce commuter trips using the structure but also from those traveling from Gurgaon to Delhi by reducing traffic congestion on the Sirhaul border.
Commuting traveling to Delhi and the area side by side with the atmosphere mall has also stated relieved that underpasses finally opened even if tried.
“Underpass has missed so many deadlines that we all gave up at the time was finished in the near future.
Because of that, a pleasant surprise for us to find that it was open when we returned home after dinner at home relatively on the golf road on Sunday night .
the trip that normally would take us about 25 minutes reduced to almost 15 minutes.
When we travel on weekdays, especially during peak traffic hours, the time we save will be more, “Partha Chatterjee, Ambience Island residents, said.
Nalini Tiwari, who works at the Vihar udyog and lives in Vasant Kunj, “the way home after work is a complete nightmare.
It takes more than one hour to cover almost 14 kilometers just because of congestion on the border.
This underpass will make a big difference.
I Just hope that things run smoothly during the trial and structure continue to open from here.
