Gurgaon: After greenbelts, wall art, and vertical organic gardens in the flyover pillar, commuters can be welcomed by fresh flowers on stoplights immediately.
In the step towards city beauty, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to hang a flower basket from the traffic signal.
More generally in hilly areas, project feasibility due to hot and dry weather conditions the city has raised eyebrows, even in authority.
After the proposal was filed at a recent meeting of the population advisory board (RAC), Chief Executive Official GMDA has stated that the step will be taken by the Urban Environment Division in this matter.
At the next meeting, the Chief Executive of Authority (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal directed officials to speed up the process and took the “appropriate steps” to install the flower basket from the traffic light.
“We are currently checking the feasibility (project) and the way to keep flowers well maintained,” Rajpal said.
Other officials told TII that the development authorities currently identified areas where the project would be carried out.
“Ideally, GMDA is looking for places where police personnel or other officials are deployed so that this flower basket can be maintained by them every day.
Authority is considering getting a connection in the area to ensure that the interest can be maintained,” the official said.
However, part of GMDA officials have expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the plan which quotes high temperatures recorded in the city until most of this year.
“Steps like this are more effective in hilly areas where the temperature is lower and the weather is more conducive.
In Gurgaon, it’s very hot.
And when the flower baskets are hanged, they are more likely to dry faster.
This maintenance will be a problem, And until the right watering system designed (project) is not practical, “said an official.
“When maintaining Greenbelts it is difficult because of weather conditions, sustaining a scattered flower basket crossing the stretch will be much more challenging.”
