Hyderabad: Even before the dust in the water war has not yet settled, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh seem to be heading to the current conflict.
The Telutan Energy Department on Monday issued an order to produce Hydel power plants on the Srisailam project even though the AP government opposed it strongly.
AP even wrote a letter to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to hold Telangana from Hydel Power Generation.
But, Telangana ordered its energy government to produce in full capacity.
Interestingly, the order was removed even though KRMB asked Telangana to stop the power plant.
Chief of Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently directed the power utility to produce 100 percent of hydel power capacity to meet the country’s energy requirements.
Following the CM direction, the Energy Department issued an order.
In an order, the Department of Energy said because of the typical field of Telangana, he has no choice except to lift water from Krishna or the Godavari River to fulfill the aspirations of the country’s farmers.
“Even though there is a very large power requirement, TS GENCO does not produce hydel power with full capacity.
The current capacity is 2,500 mW a much lower day than the needs.
The Chair and Managing Director Gento has been directed to take steps to increase Hydel power plants,” said Secretary of Energy Sandeep Kumar Sultania.
TS Genco officials said the Telangana government produced 300 MW in the Jura Project, 300 MW in Srisailam and around 100 MW to 200 MW of the Sagar Nagarjuna project.
“Of the total power demand of 5,000 MW for the elevator irrigation project, 1,200 MW exclusively for the IFIGASI KALESHWARAM IRIGASI project,” said a senior Genco official.
The official source said the temporary Hydel power plant in 2019-20 was 4,509 MW, around 3,666 MW in 2020-21 due to a large fire accident in the Hydel Srisailam project where several units were destroyed.
As a result of the accident, 700 MW was lost, Genco official said.
