Gurdaspur: The reopening of the Kartarpur corridor may be postponed further after farmers whose land is obtained for its construction begins ‘Dharna’, demanding that the government fulfill his promise or they will not let the corridor open.
When talking to TOI on Wednesday, Gurnam Singh, a resident of Pakhoke Tahli Sahib, alleged that the government had forgotten the promises made to them, including paying the remaining compensation.
He said that farmers had made all possible efforts to get compensation since the opening of the corridor but did not succeed.
He said that around 140 farmers held a meeting on Wednesday, and decided to continue with their Dharna and intensify their struggle.
“Now we have decided to sit in Dharna and block the road that leads to the Kartarpur corridor and we will not allow the government to open it unless it fulfills its promise made for us,” he said.
On March 16, 2020, both India and Pakistan have decided to temporarily suspend Kartarpur pilgrimage to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
However, on October 2, 2020, Pakistan unilaterally announced to open the side of the corridor and India denied the same thing.
Not long ago, the Pakistani Sikh Gurdwara (PSGPC) Committee and the Property Board believed Pakistan, his mother’s body had been extended to the president of the Parbandhak Committee Parbandhak Shiromani and Jathedar aircraft took care of the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib via Kartarpur Corridor.
Gurnam, the three hectares of land were obtained at first, said that seven additional land Marlas was obtained by the government later but he had not received any compensation.
Suba Singh from Chandu Nangal said the government should pay for drill wells, TubeWell rooms, animal warehouses, and trees but after opening Kartarpur corridors, representatives completely forgot about all of these contributions, adding that farmers also demand compensation for their land is used to establish a city tent.
Other farmers Manjit Singh, residents of Dera Baba Nanak, said that unpaid compensation was only one problem; There are many farmers who don’t have access to their fields because of the construction of the road to the border.
“Sometimes we have to go to our fields after crossing the fields of others and we are forced to take the approval of the owner who is very difficult and annoying,” he said.
