Chandrapur: Agitator led by BJP MLA and former Finance Minister Maharashtra Sudhir Mungantiwar closed down the coal mine Baranj OpenCast, owned by Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL), in the state on Thursday to suppress various demands of projects affected by the project ( Pap).
Agitator dug the trenches on the road to the mine, blocking the movement of vehicles to the mine.
There was a recurrent fight between police personnel and agitators as police officials twice tried to stop the excavation of trenches.
The BJP leaders issued an open warning to the police, said that they would be responsible for unwanted consequences if they tried to block the extract of the road or block the agitators.
Mungantiwar said that KPCL, despite repeated demand, has not fulfilled the long demands of PAPs.
The company, he said, has not rehabilitated Chek Baranj Village and Baranj Mokasa, denied the minimum wages to workers, not paying their salaries since 10 months, and have not given them 50% of their land or compensation at Rs 4 Lakh per Acre because it has committed it in Agreement with the state government.
