Gurgaon: air quality in this city, which in the ‘moderate’ category, is likely to worsen from Friday due to calm winds and factors such as agricultural fires, burning garbage and dust from construction sites, according to Haryana Country Pollution Control Agency (HSPCB) on the day Thursday, the air quality index (AQI) was 182 (moderate), which was 168 the previous day.
A pollution agency official said the burning of plants, low temperatures and slow winds coupled with an increase in particles would cause aqi increase with Friday.
“Dust is the main cause of air pollution in our city.
Also, the air quality is likely to change poor from Friday if weather conditions are not profitable, “said Kuldeep Singh, Regional Officials, HSPCB.
An analysis conducted by the Energy Council, Environment and Water (CEEW) revealed that more than 7,300 and 1,796 agricultural fires were reported in Punjab and Haryana, respectively, between September 1 and October 27.
Delhi air pollution agricultural market share remains 10 – 20% so far, Ceew said.
“With the north-west wind which is estimated to be more Delhi-NCR and if more agricultural fires occur in the next two days, smoke from agricultural land coupled with emissions from local sources, decreasing temperature and reducing wind speeds will worsen air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas, “said CEEW LS Kurinji Association Program.
