Ghaziabad: The authority of the National Highway India (NHAI) has not yet raised concerns over the condition of deteriorating Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) at the gate, where the farmers protested for 10 months now.
In his letter to Ghaziabad District Judge, the Highway Authority has claimed that the water outlet point on the toll road has been deliberately plugged into water accumulation, while illegal electrical connections have damaged the panel that leads to voltage fluctuations, which are dangerous for traffic.
What I have, in fact, collected 10 points in his letter and urged the authorities at the Ghaziabad and Delhi police to ensure the right police so that maintenance work can be done.
“Seige not only causes discomfort for commuting but due to lack of maintenance, it has a danger to them.
What we have in the past tried to attract the attention of authority but did not succeed,” said Mudit Garg, Director of the Project, Nhai.
“Routine maintenance is very important for the longevity of the toll road.
But we cannot do stretching works occupied by protesting farmers.
In fact, in July when we tried visiting the place, we had an argument with the protesters,” he added.
However, the farmers who protested denied the allegations carried out by Nhai, said they had never stopped anyone for doing maintenance work.
“We are always cooperative with NHAI.
This is a tactic in the NHAI part to discredit protests and this is done on the government’s orders,” said Jagtar Singh Bajwa, a farmer leader.
