Coimbatore: A 55-year-old woman was washed away in a flash flood while crossing Mathipatayam Odai (stream) in retrenched here on Saturday afternoon.
There was no footstep until 7pm, when the fire service personnel and rescue from Thondamuthur and Coimbatore South Station concluded their search due to poor light.
Search operations will be continued on Sunday morning.
The fire department identified the victim as Vijaya, Marudhan’s wife of Ambedkar Street in Mathipallayam.
He is an agricultural worker.
“On Saturday morning, he went to the Velusakamy farming field to work.
While returning home along with two other female farm workers around 2:00 p.m., he stepped into the Mathipatayam stream, which was in the Spate, and tried to cross him.
The remaining two were not Entering the flow.
Suddenly, Vijaya was swept away in the flood water and his friends cried for help, “he said.
The villagers immediately warned fire service personnel and rescue, who rushed to the place and launched their search, but was in vain.
