Ahmedabad: Two workers, aged 45 and 28, were buried alive when the earth bumps collapsed on them at the construction site near the Crossroads Amikunj in Naranpura.
The slide occurred when five workers explored the basement on the construction site back in Janak Apartments.
Mudslide happened suddenly and the pile of earth from the holding wall gave up, trapping them below him, said a Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency (AFES) officer.
Three workers managed to escape while two were trapped.
The Afes team was called for rescue operations and four fire brigade vehicles with 40 personnel rushed to the place and began working rescue.
Afes personnel recovered two workers – Javsingh Damor, 45, indigenous Jhalod in Dahod District and Patu Kayami, 25, from Garbada – unconscious.
They rush to a civil hospital but died during treatment.
Damor and Kayami have been in town for one and a half months to work.
“On Friday morning, we were waiting at Kadia Naka (labor market) in Naranpura.
We were approached by contractors to dig jobs on the Old Janak Apartments site.
We were promised Rs 400 a day for the job,” said Dinesh Damor, who works with late.
He said that both of them could escape from Mudslide and stuck.
The family of the workers who died reached the Civil Solo Hospital and their bodies would be brought back to their original places for their last ceremony.
