Ahd: Covid-recovered patients Inhabit most ICU beds

AHMEDABAD: Covid-19 isn’t letting off acute patients readily.
Even after healing from the viral disease, its morbideffect proceeds to maintain patients forces them to look for crucial medical care after release.
Citybased private hospitals stated that over 70 percent of their ventilators and ICU beds to non-Covid patients ‘ are in reality inhabited from the Covid-recovered patients.
Dr Bharat Gadhvi, president of Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, stated that 168 private associations are now treating Covid patients.
“Majority of these have adopted a hybrid version where they also provide non-Covid therapy.
However, our latest study revealed over 70 percent of ventilators and ICU beds to non-Covid patients have been engaged to offer therapy for Covid-recovered patients,” he explained.
Dr Gadhvi, who’s also regional manager of HCG Hospitals, stated that 12 non-Covid ventilators in his hospital in town have Covid-recovered patients.
What attracts several Covidrecovered sufferers back from ICUs? Dr Sanjay Shah, head of emergency department in Apollo Hospitals, said that the occurrence called post-Covid sequelae is accountable for “Majority of these patients have respiratory difficulties because of elevated lung participation through Covid disease.
They thus require ventilator, BiPAP or even NRBM assistance,” he explained.
“At our center, from the complete capacity, roughly 60 percent ICU and ventilator beds have Covid-recovered patients” ‘Emotional, fiscal change’ Dr Jigar Mehta, critical care expert at KD Hospital stated that 20 ventilator beds for Covid patients are still stay busy even as Covid amounts are led south.

It is a significant emotional and financial strain for those sufferers,” he explained, adding that only 25-30percent get completely recovered.
P 2 Dr Anil Jain, health director of Epic Hospital, stated that the most popular post-Covid complication would be lung swelling.
“These individuals find it tough to keep desired oxygen amounts, and so require both BiPAP or invasive ventilation based upon the oxygen dependence.
Aside from mucormycosis, septicemia (blood disease ) and secondary bacterial disease can also be seen in several retrieved sufferers,” he explained, adding that nearly all critical care beds in his center possess such sufferers.
