AHD: ‘Fat is not suitable for fighting Coronavirus’

Ahmedabad: Fat is not suitable for Coronavirus.
Even as hypertension and diabetes emerged as the two most common comorbidities found among Covid-19 patients, it has been found that if the existing patients also have obesity or severe above normal, they need hospitalization and stay longer, experts say.
Dr.
Minesh Mehta, a critical care specialist based in the city, said that during the current third wave, it was observed that half of the patients in the hospital had obesity or weight on the higher side as one of the existing risk factors.
“In our population, hypertension and diabetes are closely related to obesity or excess weight.
But if we compare it with the second wave, the patient’s profile has changed – in the second wave, the majority of younger patients who need support for inpatient and oxygen have obesity.
This, the majority of patients over 50 years old and have obesity as one of the comorbidity, “he said.
“During this wave, overall hospitalization is lacking.
And thus, we need to understand the criteria for entering – if a patient has several comorbidity, they must be accepted into doctor’s advice.
One of the risk factors for these criteria is obesity, as obesity.
Patients May feel panting or have a feeling of negotiating, “said Dr.
Manoj Vithalani, a city-based internal medical expert.
“In general, it is associated with other comorbidity.” Dr.
Amit Prajapati, a critical care specialist based in the city, said that it was not like obese patients came more to the hospital – it must be seen from a treatment point of view.
“I will not say that someone gets severe covid because of obesity – but when someone has obesity, it reduces the patient’s lung capacity and also takes a little longer for recovery,” he said.
“About half of patients who need longer hospitalizations have several comorbidity including obesity.
Those who suffer from chronic kidney disease and those who have a transplant history are also at risk of hospitalization,” said Dr.
Anish Joshi, a city-based critical care specialist.
Dr.
Vivek Dave, a city-based critical care specialist, said that obesity was a risk factor for younger and older patients among Covid patients who were hospitalized during this wave.
“But the silver layer is, relatively fewer patients accepted.
This time, we have not seen many young patients who experience hypoxia (requires oxygen support).
But we must oversee patients with some comorbidity including obesity,” he said.
Meanwhile, the country has continued the trend down in the case of Covid Daily – on Saturday, Gujarat recorded 11,794 new cases, fourth day in a row in the case.
With an update, the number of patients actively dropped to 98,000, falling below 1 lakh after eight days.
However, Covid’s death continues to increase – to 30 deaths on Friday, the country recorded death 33 active patients in 24 hours, the majority of the city.
