Ahmedabad: Pharma Major Zydus Cadila hopes to start supplying the Covid-19-Zycov-D vaccine in mid or late September.
The company based in Ahmedabad is also in talks with several contract manufacturing organizations (CMOS) to increase vaccine production.
Zydus Cadila DNA Vaccine which was developed on Friday received an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the drug controller General India (DCGI), also made India’s first vaccine for children in the age group 12-18 years.
“Our new factory has been assigned and has begun to produce the first batch of vaccines.
In mid or late September, we hope to start supplying vaccines,” said Dr.
Sharvil Patel, Managing Director, Zydus Cadila Group.
Stating that the company is now actively looking at ways to improve manufacturing capabilities through partnerships in India, Patel further added, “We have completed the initial thorough test of at least two to three manufacturers in India.
We have also received requests to transfer technology to several other countries.

“In media interactions on Saturday, Patel further added,” We are talking to other partners for technology transfer.
If we can do it successfully, we will see a larger increase in through a partnership.
“Zydus will be able to establish partnerships When the company becomes a clarity of sharing costs with CMOS, it will be able to establish partnerships.
At present, the company plans to produce 1 dose of crore in October.
It aims to provide a dose of 3-4crore in December and further increase the supply to 5 crore doses at the end of January.
When asked about the determination of vaccine prices, Patel said that the company would work with the supervisory authority for pricing and dosage delivery modalities.
“We will have better clarity about prices in the next one or two weeks,” said Patel, added that the discussion with the government about pricing has not yet begun.
