Ahmedabad: A 18-month-old girl from Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh was taken to a civil hospital for an unusual problem – the girl had swelling in her stomach, which turned out to be a fetus! In medical language, it is a rare case of fetus-in-fetu where one of the twins in the uterus is a disability and parasite in nature and grow in other twin bodies.
Dr.
Rakesh Joshi, Professor and Head of the Pediatric Surgery Department in a civil hospital, said that Vidhi (name changed) was the daughter of the jewelry shop owner.
“The couple was worried about swelling his stomach.
CT Scan revealed the presence of the fetus.
They went to the hospital and Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh but without results,” he said.
The Asarwa civil hospital team with Vidhi and his parents on July 22, the operation was carried out by a team led by Dr.
Joshi, Dr.
Jaishree Ramji, Dr.
Trupti Shah and Dr.
Kiran Patel.
The fetus presses its right kidney and kidney vessels – thus if the fetus is not deleted, it can compress other internal organs, the experts said.
The fetus has a brain column and vertebral column, he added.
“Fetus-Fetu is a rare innate disorder that has the prevalence of about one of the live births lakh.
Worldwide, there may be around 200 cases reported in the literature.
For us, this is the third case in more than two decades,” said Dr.
Joshi.
“The operation raises a big challenge because of the masses in relation to the vital structure that requires a careful dissection.”
