Ahmedabad: Heritage School to Get New Avatar

Ahmedabad: Leaving, without supervision, dilapidated and may be forgotten since the 2001 earthquake, a 150-year-old heritage school building in the crowded place in the walled in the wall in Ahmedabad is ready to be restored.
Supported by the initiative of the State Government, Architect Duo Manuel M de Las Heras – A Spanish architect and his colleague, Sanskriti Panchal, will recover this legacy to build government high school to the innovation center for girls.
The Restoration Project is the first case of reuse of adaptive from the government-owned heritage building.
Restoration work is expected to be completed in the next two years.
On Friday, the Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Gujarat Chamber Foundation and the LXS Foundation to establish the Girls Innovation Center in collaboration with the State Education Department, UNESCO Delhi, Alliance Française D’Ahmedabad and Indian National Trust for Art & Culture (Intach).
“The innovation center will basically focus on four projects to start.
This includes life skills training, sports training and career counseling, and even scholarship programs that can be used by girls.
The idea is to allow young girls from the background that is less able to Additional skill sets and access to financial assistance, “Panchal, Co-founder, LXS Foundation.
“This project also aims to allow micro entrepreneurs in Pol Ahmedabad through a grant,” he added.
The idea behind restoring heritage buildings and turning it into a functional innovation center for women is to bring heritage to its people.
“Physical heritage is only valid for the relevance in the future when it represents equality, inclusion and innovation.
Our idea is to carry an urban heritage room to a common citizen.
Heritage building does not have to be a tourist spot but places that can be accessed by the local community and Therefore, restoring them by remembering the aspirations of the younger generation and community needs cannot be avoided, “said Manuel, who has worked on the recovery of inheritance and space buildings with the involvement of the local community in Dhal Ni Pol.
The organization will reach the girls in need through the State Education Department.
The Commerce and Industrial Gujarat (GCCI) room will fund RS 15 Lakh for the project.
