Ahmedabad: Even when the city struggles to limit the increase in Covid cases, the city hospital has registered a surge in diseases transmitted through vectors, especially the case of Chikungunya and dengue fever.
Between 4 and 11 December, 47 new cases of Chikungunya and 37 new cases of dengue fever have been reported.
The total number of Chikungunya cases between January 1 to December 11 reached 1,677, up 81.7% from 923 cases registered in 2020.
Dengue cases in the city in the same period reached 3,036, up 602% from 432 cases in 2020.
Ahmedabad Data from the Health Office of the Municipal Corporation also showed that malaria cases in the city between January and December 11 reached 981, up 58.7% from 618 last year.
In the same period, City Hospital recorded 134 Falciparum cases up 109% from 64 registered cases last year.
“With the available workforce, it is almost impossible to do fogging in the areas we received the most complaints.
We continue to register new cases even from the area we have done fogging.
That’s because we have found most of the mosquito nets on the terrace and space Underground building.
We have asked residents to keep the terrace and their basements remain clean to avoid mosquito breeding, “said an AMC health department official.
