Ahmedabad: With 21,000 active cases, Covid-19 has tightened his grip in the city but during a long Uttarayan break, violators of masks do not seem to be noticed by the police.
The number of violations of the mask rules was dramatically dipped in Uttarayan and the next day when the police seemed to show reduction.
On weekdays so far, January has seen 1,066 violations of masks throughout the city and most violations are recorded on January 8 and January 10.
However, only 612 cases were registered in Uttarayan and the numbers were dipped further to 537 the next day.
, which is celebrated as Vasi Uttarayan.
The average number of violations of the mask-rule for three days in front of Uttarayan is 1,270.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Uttarayan and on the previous two days remained more than 3,000.
Ahmedabad recorded 15,997 violations of mask rules between January 1 and 15 and a fine with a total RS 16 lakh collected.
A similar trend was seen during the Diwali festival in 2020 and 2021 and during the local body poll Gujarat 2021.
On the day of voting, the police only found four people who violated the mask rules because they were busy with the band bandobust.
It was the lowest cases of violations of masks in the city, recorded on February 21, 2021.
“During the Uttarayan Festival, the police were deployed to maintain social distance and to apply the Covid protocol strictly,” said a city police officer.
“After the festival, around 85 police were diagnosed with Covid infection.” Officers added: “However, when people celebrate the festival with joy, we don’t want to be spoilsport.”
