Nashik: Ahmednagar police on Tuesday arrested a medical officer, Dr.
Vishika Shinde, and three staff nurses – Sapna Pathare, Asma Sheikh and Chhana Anant – in connection with API in the ICU Ahmednagar civil hospital that killed November 11 on November 6.
The Ahmednagar police supervisor Manoj Patil told the Toi that the cases had been registered with the fourth bottom 304 (punishment for guilty murders did not amount to murder) and 304-A (causing death due to negligence) from the IPC.
They will be produced in court on Wednesday.
On Monday, the state government had suspended Dr Shinde along with the civilian surgical district of Dr.
Sunil Pokharna, other medical officers, Dr.
Suresh Dakhe, and nurses Pathare.
It has also stopped Sheikh and Anant services.
“Police investigations have found that four arrests were assigned to work in the ICU on Saturday morning but no one was present when the fire broke out.
There was a delay of about 10 minutes in response time after the fire broke out.
We feel more lives can be saved that fire is detected in time, “Patil said.
The police have conducted an investigation related to death in the flames.
It has examined recording from CCTV installed in the ICU.
“Dr.
Shinde was supposed to be on the ICU from 9am and so on that day.
But he didn’t visit the ICU even before the fire broke around 10:30 a.m.,” said Patil.
Asked whether there might be more arrests in this case, Patil said the police investigation was still on.
Meanwhile, nurses in civil hospitals held a demonstration on Tuesday morning protesting actions against their three colleagues.
The Maharashtra nurse association has written to the Chairman of the Minister of Uddhav Thackeray who demanded action against three drawn nurses.
They claimed that the three nurses were the first to ring a warning after the fire broke and that they helped take patients from the ICU.
