AI canceled most US flights for the 2nd day more than 5G worried

For the second day in a row, Air India canceled most of its flights on US routes for security issues related to the launch of 5G communication in the US and the possibility of harmful effects on the aircraft navigation system.
The six returned flights were scheduled to leave India for the US Thursday – canceled, said the airline source.
The day before, the airline has canceled eight returns.
A total of 734 passengers who had checked in for three flights were scheduled for Wednesday morning has been accommodated at the hotel, said the source, adding Air India hoping to get permission to operate Boeing 777 flights to the US to fly stranded leaflets.
Then on that day, President Biden said the service provider had agreed to delay the spread of 5G around the main airport.
Among Thursday’s cancellation is Indian air flight from Delhi to Newark, Chicago and San Francisco.
At the time of the press, the source said that Air India is likely to operate Delhi-New York-Delhi and Delhi-Washington-Delhi flights.
The decision about Mumbai-Newark flight was waiting.
“The Washington Airport does not have a 5G C-band transmission station around it and flights to this goal will not be affected,” said the source of the airline.
The problem is related to 5G services using frequency in a radio spectrum called C-band because this frequency is close to those used by the Altimeter radio on the aircraft.
Because the radio altimeter is the only sensor on a plane that provides accurate information about the height of aircraft, every disturbance with the reading can be dangerous.
As a result, in December, US flight regulators, Federal flight administration (FAA), issued directives which basically prohibits all low visibility landings so 5G deployed.
The 5G launch was postponed from January 5 to allow the time of FAA to complete the solution.
In a temporary enforcement to the airline, FAA recently issued a list of altimeter radio models (installed on the Boeing aircraft) found “strong” against 5G C-band interference.
Among these are Boeing 777 and 787 planes, which are also aircraft operating in the US.
The Boeing aircraft equipped with altimeter permitted can continue the landing of low visibility in the area of 5G C-band until January 31, said FAA in a letter sent to Boeing, January 18.
The altimeter manufacturer evaluates data from wireless companies to determine how the respective models (radio altimeter) are strong, he said.
“This work has shown some reliable and accurate altimeters in the 5G area, others must be installed or replaced,” he said.
FAA has also issued a long list of airports to which aircraft equipped with special radio altimeter can operate even in low visibility conditions.
The list includes all US airports operating, except New York-JFK.
“But if Air India’s Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 aircraft are not equipped with certain radio altimeter models, the US airline flight will continue to be hit until the altimeter is not installed or replaced or another solution is reached,” said the source.
Statement from Air India is awaited at the time of the press.
Meanwhile, the US government will work to find a solution that allows 5G signals and flights to coexist safely, the White House said in a statement on January 18.
