New Delhi: The World Women’s Boxing Championship next month in Istanbul on Wednesday was postponed until March 2022 by the AIBA sports Body, who said “Covid-19 situation was too difficult at this time” and could not risk to continue the events.
As reported by PTI on Tuesday, the postponement of the event was sealed during the men’s world championship recently in Belgrade where several countries expressed concerns about traveling to Turkey in the midst of a surge in Covid cases.
“Thus, the Aiba Board of Directors, in the consensus with the Turkish National Federation, has decided to delay the women’s world championship until March 2022,” said President Aiba Umar Kremlev in a letter to the National Federation in possession of PTI.

Feedback received is that too many national federations face difficult situations and restrictions in their countries.
Unfortunately, the Covid situation is too difficult at this time,” he explained.
This tournament is planned tentatively from December 4 to 18 in Istanbul.
Turkey has recorded more than 25,000 cases regularly.
The country also reported 187 deaths on Monday as a deadly infection that had brought Havoc globally over the past two years.
The surge in the case has been associated with a Delta variant of the virus.
“We are aware that some teams have started preparations for this event and will be disappointed,” Kremlev said.
“However, please understand that our athletes’ safety and welfare, officials and other stakeholders are priorities, and therefore we cannot risk to continue the event,” he added.
Europe, in general, has witnessed a covid case increase.
India will be represented by national champions in power in all categories weights except for the 70kg division where the Bronze-Medal Olympiad-Medal Lovlina Borghain has been given direct selection.
The direct selection was opposed by the national gold winner and World Youth Champion Arundati Choudhary, who had taken this problem to the Delhi High Court.
HC has issued a notification to the Indian federation of this issue.
