Chennai: Ruling Champion Fast World Women Koneru Humpy has been nominated for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award which is prestigious by the Indian Chess Federation (AICF).
Humpy 34 years old, currently ranked number three in the world, has been eligible for future female female candidates and also part of the Indian squad which won the online chess Olympiad in 2020.
Humpy has become the recipient of Arjuna award and Shri Padma.
Also, seven other players – Vidit S Gujrathi, B Adhiban, the 26-year-old Gujrathi is the captain of the Indian team who won the gold medal at Olympiad Chess Online last year.
In addition, Grandmaster and Coach Note Abhijit Kunte has been nominated for the Dhyanchand main award.
