New Delhi: Aimim, a political party led by Asaduddin Owaisa, has written a letter to the Indian election commission relaxation looking for a ban on all physical fashion campaigns for the upcoming assembly elections in five countries.
EC while announcing the date of the poll for up, punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur on Saturday, announced a full hard action on the physical demonstration, roadshows, cars and motorcycles of demonstrations, Padusyatras and procession until January 14, considering Covid infection rises in country.
The prohibition will be reviewed after January 14 calculates changes in the dynamics of the Covid situation.
In his letter sent to EC, Aimim was said to have argued that the 100% restriction in the physical mode of the campaign puts small parties such as the losses vis a vis parties larger and richer that have resources and infrastructure to run a fully digital campaign .
A source said Aimim was sought for windows for small parties to carry out physical campaigns.
Before reviewing the prohibition of physical demonstrations on January 14, the European Commission has monitored the vaccination rate in the polling-bound countries.
“The emphasis of this commission is to ensure 100% or the highest coverage of the first dose and also see that the second dose is given to all those who meet the requirements.
This will provide protection to voters from Covid or at least from severe symptoms or hospitalizations, even if they are infected, when the poll, “said an EC official.
Incidentally, the vaccination rate has been picked up in countries such as up, where the first dose coverage has touched 90%.
A previous EC official told TI that physical campaign was banned until January 14 to ensure the security of people during the “Spreading Stage” itself.
He added that depending on the situation, the call could be taken on allowing physical demonstrations during the campaign period, which began on January 27 and so on.
Meanwhile, the European Commission will also hold a meeting on January 14 with around 900 observers – including general, police spending and observers – will be deployed in five polling-bound countries.
The meeting will be carried out through the hybrid mode, will be short of observers at the monitoring mechanism to ensure free, fair and covid-safe polls.
