Patna: City air quality continues to remain in the “very bad” category for the third consecutive day on Thursday even though there is a mild drizzle.
It’s likely to deteriorate further with the fall temperature and decrease in mixing depth, because where pollutants trapped in the atmosphere cannot be dissolved.
The air quality index (AQI) level was recorded at 329 on Thursday, up from 316 on Wednesday, in accordance with the bulletin board control board center at 4 pm, which is the average of the last 24 hours.
Prominent pollutants such as PM10 (material particles less than 10 microns) are recorded at 300 and PM2.5 (material particles less than 2.5 microns) in 104 to 189, according to the data provided by the Bihar State Pollus Control Board (BSPCB).
Aqi between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfying”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor” and 401 and 500 “severe”.
“Very bad” aqi basically means that people may suffer from respiratory diseases on long exposure to the air and may have a clearer effect on people with lung and heart disease.
The whole aqi city 329 is the average level of pollutants six monitoring centers of continuous ambient air quality.
Among them, five were in a very bad zone, including Eco Park (362), Planetarium (357), Patna City (354), S K Memorial Hall (321) and DRM Office-Khagaul (321).
At these stations, the main pollutants are PM2.5, while PM10 is the main source of pollutants in the Bit-intimate, Patna, which is in the “poor” category with 267.
Naveen Kumar, an environmental scientist and board analyst at BSPCB, said The level of pollution in the city has fallen due to solid fog and cold conditions.
“The formation of thermal inversion is also one reason for the increase in pollution.
During inversion, cold air trapped under warm air, creating stagnant air bags close to the surface of the earth.
The condition of the meteorology is responsible for increasing pollution, while there are no changes in anthropogenic activities,” He said.
Ankita Jyoti, senior program officers at the Center for Environmental and Energy Development (CEED), said the minimum temperature has declined in recent days.
As a result, air pollution has increased.
“Seasonal pollution sources also cause rising in the pollutants in the atmosphere,” he said.
