Airlines vs 5g: What is the problem and why it’s just our problem

Major International Airlines rushed to rejig or canceled flights to the United States ahead of the launch of 5G Wireless on Wednesday (19 January) that has sparked safety concerns, although wireless carriers say they will delay portions deployment.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned that the potential interference can affect the altitude reading 5G on some jets, the Boeing 777 airline cites among the models in the spotlight.
Apart from the announcement of the AT & T and Verizon that they will pause 5G launch near the airport, some airlines still canceling flights or replace aircraft models.
Air India cancels 8 flights.
Here is the background of the dispute: FAA warned that the new 5G technology can interfere with instruments such as altimeters, which measure how far above the ground plane traveling.
Altimeter operates in the range of 4.2 to 4.4 GHz and the concern is that the frequency of auctions sitting too close to this range.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said last month 5G FAA directive would make the use of radio altimeter around 40 airports U.S.
greatest.
U.S.
Airline warned directives can interfere with up to 4% of daily flights.
Kirby said if left unresolved it could mean that in Major U.S.
Airport in the case of bad weather, cloud cover or even heavy smog “You can only do a visual approach basically.” Are all affected aircraft.
Airlines announced plans to switch from a Boeing 777 and Boeing 747-8, including Emirates, All Nippon Airways (Ana), Japan Airlines and Lufthansa.
How this can be corrected in the short term, AT & T and Verizon agreed to temporarily postpone powering multiple wireless tower near the main airport in order to avoid US kegagaman.
Long term, the FAA needs to be removed and allow most of the commercial aircraft fleets U.S.
to conduct low visibility landings at many airports where the 5G C-Band will be deployed.
This means certified altimeter to operate near the base station 5G.
What difference makes airlineesthe higher frequencies in the frequency spectrum, the faster service.
So to get the full value of 5G, operators want to operate at a higher frequency.
Multiple c band spectrum auction has been used for satellite radio, but the transition to 5G means there will be more traffic.
What is said telekomunikan company and AT & T argues that the C Band 5G has been deployed in about 40 other countries without any problems flight disruptions.
They have approved the Buffer Zone around 50 airports in the United States, similar to those used in France, for six months to reduce the risk of interference.
Why 5G problem is not outside of the US.
EU in 2019 set the standard for middle-distance 5G frequency in the range from 3.4 to 3.8 GHz, a frequency lower than that will be launched in the United States.
Bandwidth has been auctioned in Europe and is used in many countries of the 27-member bloc has so far no problems.
EU Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which oversees the 31 countries, said on December 17, this issue is specific to US airspace.
“At this stage, there is no risk of interference unsafe have been identified in Europe,” he said.
FAA officials have noted the spectrum occupied by France (3.6 to 3.8 GHz) is located further away from the spectrum (4.2-4,4 GHz) used for the altimeter in the United States and France for 5G power levels much lower than what authorized in the United State of America.
Verizon says it will not use the spectrum that is closer to the high band for several years.
In South Korea, the frequency of 5G mobile communication is 3,42-3.7 GHz band and has been no reported interference with radio waves from the commercialization of 5G in April 2019.
At present, the wireless station 5G communications are operating close to the airport, but there were no reports of problem.
“Wireless Operator in nearly 40 countries throughout Europe and Asia are now using ribbon C to 5G, with no reported effect on radio altimeter operating in the 4.2 to 4.4 GHz band remains the same CTIA,” said the trade group for wireless US, said in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission.
