Coimbatore: The landowner in Chinniyampalayam, which is intended for the acquisition for the airport expansion project, held a protest on Friday, urging the state government to increase compensation to obtain land that has buildings.
According to protesters, low compensation is given for building protesters after calculating depreciation.
“The cost per square foot to build a house has increased exponentially.
With current compensation, we cannot buy a new house anywhere in the district,” said a protester and urged the government to stop the acquisition process until they arrived at a fair compensation and entered Taste.K Jayaprakash, said the current compensation board, said the current compensation was decided in 2018.
“Tanahar rates have skyrocketed in all districts.
Compensation arrived three years ago is now useless,” he said.
Protester, who asked for anonymity, said the authorities had threatened people who refused to sign an agreement, stating that the government would take over their land without their consent.
“We are ready to give our land, but want appropriate compensation,” he told Toi.
