New Delhi: India and Russia will hold discussions between high-level governments about the situation in Afghanistan, the government announced on Tuesday.
At the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, his colleague and Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Nikolay Patrushev will visit India for the meeting on September 7-8, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Doval is expected to underline India’s concern about Pakistani-based terror group activities and India oriented as permitted and JEM in Afghanistan.
India believes Moscow can play a key role in ensuring Afghanistan is not used by these groups to target other countries in the region.
Consultation is a follow-up of a telephone conversation between PM Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin on August 24.
The two leaders later expressed the view that it was important for two strategic partners to work together and instructed their senior officials to stay in touch in Afghanistan.
Patrushev is also expected to summon Modi’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during a visit.
The conversation in Afghanistan will take place a day before the BRICS summit where Modi, Putin and Chinese President XI Jinping are expected to underline the concerns related to Afghanistan.
SCO Summit next week is expected to focus, especially in Afghanistan.
