Mumbai: Deputy Chief of Maharashtra Minister Ajit Pawar missed the GST board meeting on Friday quoting urgent involvement and Ganeshotsav, a day after he criticized the center of physical meeting during the pandemic.
In a letter to the Minister of Finance Union Nirmala Sitharaman on September 15, he also opposed to carry gasoline and diesel under the GST regime.
“As gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products have a major contribution to the state, these products must be continued from GST in accordance with the existing tax structure,” said Pawar, which holds a financial portfolio.
He added in the GST regime, the state’s ability to raise additional finance is limited.
“However, in cooperative federalism, the state requires additional finances to take developmental activities and to accelerate the country’s economic growth,” his letter said.
Pawar also requested GST compensation contributions to declare and the compensation period was extended for five years outside June 2022.
He asked for state revenue to be protected by a 14% increase every year according to the current settings.
