Karachi: Legendary Pacer Wailim Akram also showed interest in becoming a new chairman of the Pakistani cricket board before Prime Minister Imran Khan took Ramiz King for responsibility.
According to people in PCB are aware of developments that lead to Ramiz’s nomination as chairman, who previously also expressed interest in that position.
“It was true that Wasim Akram was also considered for the position of chairman and also indicated his interest but, apparently, the prime minister was advised that Ramiz would be a better choice because he did not have the past baggage to be carried with him,” said the source.
Akram, who is an influential member of the PCB Cricket Committee and also the Director of Cricket / Coach with Karachi Kings in the Pakistani Super League, currently in Australia with his wife and daughter.
According to a source at a time Akram’s name was submitted as the main candidate to replace Ehsan Mani and he also showed interest but his name appeared in the match installation scandal in the past became an obstacle for him.
