NEW YORK: Tokyo Olympic Champion Alexander Zverev advanced to the US Open semi-final on Wednesday, moving to Jalan Novak Djokovic as world number one chasing a grand slam calendar.
Germany’s fourth seed Zverev stretched his victory to 16 matches by beating Lloyd Harris 7-6 (8/6) in South Africa, 6-3, 6-4.
“This will be an exciting semifi,” Zverev’s promise.
Zverev, US runner-up last year for Thiem Dominic who was now injured, reached the fourth career slam semifinals and could find himself suitable with Djokovic pursuing history on Friday.
Djokovic will try to move in two matches completing the first Grand Slam by a man since Rod Laver in 1969 when he faced Italia’s sixth seed Matteo studied later in the final Wimbledon final match.
Djokovic, in 25 Slam Win Streak matches, looking for an open US degree open and the 21st Career Slem Trophy man’s record, which will lift it above the sign he shares with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, both of which are absent with injury.
