New Delhi: After the implementation of the compulsory conformity of two airbags for the driver and passengers in the front seat in all car models, including the cheapest, the Ministry of Transportation will now accelerate the compulsory installation of four airbags for passenger back seats.
Sources say market leaders have indicated that the cost of four airbags and changes needed in the vehicle will cost around Rs 8,000 to RS 9,000.
They say this additional fee will greatly help protect passengers in the car.
The government has made the conformity of the two airbags in all new models of mandatory cars from last year and this norm for all existing models it comes into force starting January 1.
The source said the cost of each airbag would be around Rs 1,800.
