Previously, only random samples were sent for sequencing.
This will help in identifying variants circulating in the state.
The health department has ordered officials to send samples of infected people to medical college sms for genome sequencing.
“We have intensified our supervision to detect whether there is a new Covid-19 variant in the state has entered and it will help us in maintaining a watch on it.
For this purpose, direction has been issued throughout the country to get the sequencing of the sample genome from each Covid patients found infected with viruses every day, “said Siddharth Mahajan, Secretary (Health).
Variants that have been found in the state are Delta, Alpha, Kappa and Delta +.
More than 80% of the positive tested samples for variants are deltas in the state.
The state has started the Laboratory of its own genome sequencing in SMS Medical College in June.
Previously, the Ministry of Health had to send a sample to sequentially the genome to the IGIB laboratory in Delhi, which was allocated by the State Center for the Genome sequencing.
Mahajan said, “Because some cases are reported and we have facilities for the sequencing of the genome a number of samples at SMS Hospital, we have decided to check every variant of Covid-19 patients who have infected him.

They only choose samples for covid-19 patient genome sequencing based on the severity of the disease.
Through the genome sequencing, the state government has known the second wave caused by the Delta variant of Covid-19 where more than 6,000 people have died.
Samples collected from Covid-19 patients from Covid cases April-May, show that the main variants circulated in the country are Delta, which causes damage.
