Chennai: Following the controversy over the termination of the title M Phil by Madras University, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced that all state universities would offer the M Phil title for 2021-22.
“Madras University recently stopped M Phil’s degree.
Even though there are two opinions about the need for a Phil course, we have decided to continue the M Phil course at all universities,” said Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi told Reporters after the State Chancellor Meeting of the State University in Chennai on Thursday.
Madras University stopped M Phil’s degree because of poor registration.
Officials said the pre-research title lost its development after the University Grant Commission (UGC) made a PhD, net and SLET as a minimum qualification for faculty members in universities and universities.

The minister said all state universities will begin receipt of UG on August 1 based on class XII, as announced before.
“We have directed state universities to announce the results of the exam before making acceptance,” he said.
He further said that online engineering counseling will be carried out by the Directorate of Technical Education (Dote) this year too.
“All state universities must follow uniform procedures for the appointment of professors, inspection and registrar controllers.
They are asked to ensure transparency in the recruitment process,” added the minister.
