Bhubaneswar: The government on Thursday asked state universities and state universities under the Ministry of Higher Education to provide hostel accommodation to students from regular courses based on priority before allocating dormitory rooms for students.
“Has come to the notification of the Ministry of Higher Education, some of the universities and government-level universities provide hostel facilities to students from self-financial courses with regular course students.
This practice must be stopped,” the Secretary of the Department of Sasswat Mishra.
He said hostel facilities must be given to students from regular courses based on priority.
“Only after accommodating all students of regular courses who want to live in a hostel, if some hostel seats still remain empty, then students from self-financial courses can be considered against the job,” he added.
Sudhanshu Sahoo, a Utkal University student said many students did not get accommodation at the University Hostel.
“Some poor students live outside the campus in rented accommodation due to lack of dormitory rooms.
More hostels are needed on campus to accommodate students from regular and financial courses,” said Sahoo.
Basant Kumar Mallik, Chair of the PG Council, a Utkal University, said there was a lack of dormitory rooms compared to students who received entrance tickets every year.
Some other universities and government colleges also face the same problem.
These institutions do not have enough hostel seats to accommodate all students who enroll hostel accommodation.
Some institutions felt very difficult to share the hostel seat where the number of applicants was higher than the available chairs.
