Thane: Nearly 100 families were evacuated from three housing buildings built close to each other at the Mumbra Township of Thane District on Monday after two of them had problems, citizenship officials said.
While one building began to sink to the ground, the second was tilted to one side.
The third building was evacuated because it was located close to two buildings that had developed structural problems, they said.
Officials said buildings were emptied and sealed as precautions.
About 21.10 hours, one of the buildings, 10 years plus 8 floors of structures called swastic with 56 plots, subsided and the base and beams developed the problem, said Santosh Kadam, Head of the Disaster Management Sel Management of the Thane Municipal Corporation (RDMC).
Kadam said the fire department and RDMC team rushed to the scene and evacuated the occupants of the building.
He said civil engineers would conduct a structural audit of the building.
Other buildings located adjacent to him, str plus 5-storey structures with 36 plots and about 10 years, were revealed and tilted by one side, Kadam said.
The building, located near Nullah, was emptied and the residents were transferred to the safety by the fire department and RDMC personnel, he said.
Assistant Commissioner City (Mumbra Ward) Sagar Salunke said the two housing structures were not in the list of dangerous buildings.
The third building, land plus a one-story structure, was evacuated as a precautionary measure because it was located close to two other buildings, he said.
Salung said six families live in the third building and they shift to safer places.
Overall, 98 families were evacuated and shifted to safer places, he added.
