Washington: Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu traveled to the city of Atlanta in the last week where he had some engagement with think tanks, academics, corporate world, parliamentarians and leading members of the Indian community to advance bilateral relations between the two biggest democracies in world.
Sandhu, in his speech to the Atlanta Council on international relations, touched the main aspects of Indian-US bilateral relations, including bipartisan support, increased trust, people as focus, the role of the civil industry, civil society and strategic.
In his remarks, the top Indian diplomats also describe direct priority areas – strategic and defense, health care, digital, clean energy and climate change, and education and knowledge partnerships.
Sandhu’s trip to Atlanta is part of a sustainable outreach that focuses on top priorities, including health services, education and knowledge partnerships.
With Atlanta into two universities – Emory University and Georgia Tech – The Indian Messenger has an interactive session with academics and students in both educational institutions.
Emory University is a second higher education institution in Georgia.
It has more than 8,000 students registered in 150 programs.
There are around 300 Indian students and more than 500 students from India registered in various programs.
Sandhu visited Woodruff health science center.
The University of Emory has developed Molnupiravir, a drug used to treat Covid-19 which was licensed by Merck to produce in India, and was involved in a modern vaccine clinical trial for Covid-19 variants.
During his visit, the Emory team told the ambassador about their strong partnership with the Institutes in India.
Emory’s vaccine center and international center for genetic engineering and biotechnology establish a vaccine center in New Delhi.
Chronic Condition Control Center (CCCC) in Emory Research and treat chronic health problems in India.
This center is an international partnership between Emory, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and The Public Health Foundation of India.
Emory’s health department also works on the development of the center of a shared advantage.
Under the proposed MOU, CSIR-IGIB and Emory University will hold a collaboration of research that will enable them to explore the fields of mutual interest, where CSIR-IGIB will provide collaborative skills and research skills in the fields of immunology, computing and biological systems, cells and molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology, clinical science, molecular drugs and precision and other scientific areas of allies.
In the prestigious Georgia Tech, the ambassador interacts with his leadership, faculty and students and discusses the strengthening of the partnership in the parent field.
He also visited the Kendaha building in Georgia Tech, which was one of the 28 “living buildings” in the world and one of the achievements of the most ambitious and holistic green buildings.
Georgia Tech is among the most intensive university research in America.
It has a bond with Indian educational institutions, including the Indian Science Institute, Bengaluru.
Georgia Tech students represent 50 states and 149 countries.
Of the total 40,000 students, Georgia Tech has more than 5,000 Indian or Indian students.
During his trip to the city, the ambassador also met Senator Jon Ossuff, a member of the Senior Congress of Sanford Bishop and Congressman Lucy Mcbath and Nikema Williams.
In addition, the ambassador also interacts with the bipartisan legislator group from Georgia Senate and House, where health care and increases infrastructure, education and trade connected between countries and India is discussed.
Sandhu gave respect at the center of King for MLK and gave awards to Gandhiji.
Martin Luther King’s family member and local leaders of the Indian-American and African-American communities participate in the function.
The Indian Ambassador meets with the leading Indian community members in Atlanta belonging to various fields, including business, trade, research, education, IT and Science.
Separately he interacted with young professionals in the area, many of which were entrepreneurs / CEO companies based in the region.
