American Varvara Lepchenko has been suspended temporarily for violations of anti-doping rules after a 35-year-old returned a positive test for prohibited substances, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said on Thursday.
Lepchenko provides urine samples on July 12 during the Hungarian Grand Prix, which is found to contain Adrafinil and / or Modafinil metabolites – both substances that are prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency, ITF added.
World number 127 issued pre-duty notification on August 9 and temporary suspension came into force on Thursday.
“Lepchenko has (and maintains) the right to apply to the chairman of an independent court who convene to hear the case why the suspension must not be worn (or must be emptied), but has not used it correctly,” Itf said.
