New Delhi: After the relaxation of the sports service of doping rules, ruling the Asian Games – Boxer Flyweight (52kg) Amit Pamhal – has submitted the main award of Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, TOI has learned.
The name Panghal has been recommended by the employer service sports control body (SSCB).
Coming from Mayna Rohtak Village, Pugilist currently serves as Junior Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army.
The 12-member award selection committee, led by the retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mukundakum Sharma, will soon be in charge of completing the list of recipients this year and recommend the names to the Minister of Sports Anurag for his approval.
During the four-year award cycle for Khel Ratna and Arjuna, Panghal had won a total of 16 medals, including nine gold in various multi-sports and international events.
This includes a gold medal in Jakarta Asiad (2018), Asian Championship (2019) and Cologne World Cup (2020); Silver at Gold Coast CWG (2018), AIBA World Championship (2019) and Asia Championship (2021); and bronze at the Asian Olympic / Oceania (2020) qualification event.
Panghal has the highest number of points – around 80 – among the boxers who have applied for Khel Ratna and Arjuna.

The main policy decision, the government has made athletes and coaches contaminated by drugs for national sports awards, including the Chand Major Chand Khel Khel Ratna and Arjuna award.
Such athletes and coaches must complete their ban period.
“Subeated Amit, Vishisht Seva Medal, was highly recommended for the Khel Ratna 2021 award to display extreme passion, spartan discipline and superior sportsmanship.
Extraordinary boxers, discipline & feasible for Khel Ratna,” SSCB said in his recommendation letter.
Although Pamhal applied for Khel Ratna, it was possible that the selection committee might prefer to recommend his name to the Minister of Award Arjuna first because the past Doping boxer had described him awards for the National Sports Day award.
Panghal’s nomination for Arjuna has been rejected three times by the previous committee because of violations of doping ‘accidentally’ 2012.
The application for Khel Ratna last year was rejected by the committee due to the past.
On Wednesday, the government brought a change in policy in the reward selection procedure and made athletes and coaches contaminated by Dope who were eligible for the national sports day award award.
However, such athletes and coaches must have completed their ban period.
