Amit Panghal enters semis of Asian Boxing, India Ensured of 13 Awards

DUBAI: Defending champion Amit Panghal (52kg) and debutant Varinder Singh (60kg) progressed into the semifinals since India’s assured trophy tally went to an unparalleled 14 from the Asian Boxing Championships on Wednesday. Panghal procured a second consecutive trophy after beating a stiff challenge in Mongolia’s Kharkhuu Enkhmandakh at the last-eight point, while Varinder conquered Filipino Jere Samuel Dela Cruz 5-0. India’s previous best trophy haul was 13 which has been attained in 2019. Even the World Championship silver-winning Panghal, who’s bound for Tokyo Olympics, won 3-2 at a high-octane competition where he overcame a slow start and utilized his mix shouts to telling effect in the previous two rounds.
