Amit Shah reviews Flooding preparedness, Requires Improved Centre-state coordination

New Delhi: Home Union Amit Shah on Tuesday examined the nation’s preparedness to manage flooding in aftermath of this monsoon and involves greater discriminate between the Central and state agencies to make a permanent system for predicting floods and tracking the increase in water levels at important catchment regions of the nation.

IMD and CWC, he explained, could utilize state-of-the-art engineering and satellite information to get more precise weather and flooding forecasts.
The home minister educated a normal operating procedure be devised to broadcast IMD warnings on lightning strikes on the general public in the earliest by TV, FM Radio, SMS and other mediums.
In addition, he sought maximum advertisement for various mobile programs associated with weather forecasting such as’Umang’,”Rain Alarm’ and’Damini’, made from the IMD, so the highest members of the people could benefit.

Shah suggested that research be conducted via satellite program about the growing strain on the nation’s river systems.
He led the CWC, IMD and NDRF to constantly monitor the water level and flooding scenario in rivers and also send normal reports to the MHA.
In addition, he led DG NDRF to instantly hold meetings with all the minds of those SDRF in flood-prone nations.
